Sunday April 1, 2007 RESPONSES TO THE CROSS OF CHRIST (Matthew 27:39-44; Luke 23:32-39)
Hatred in the face of Love (Luke 23:32-34) Man’s biggest problem is Sin . It creates… - Guilt
- A sense of hopelessness
- Frustration over its consequences
(1 Corinthians 1:18) “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (Galatians 3:13) “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree” (2 Corinthians 5:21) “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Ridicule in the face of Truth (Matthew 27:39-44) (1 Corinthians 1:23) “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness” Pride in the face of Humility (Luke 23:35-39) (1 Peter 2:21-24) “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” How do we respond to a lost world? 1) Love for their soul . 2) With the message of truth . 3) Humility in the face of their persecution . |
