I trusted Christ as Savior at the age of four. I sensed the call of God on my life as early as age twelve, and at the age of sixteen God called me to preach. I enrolled at Southland Bible Institute in Ashland, Kentucky upon graduation from high school in Knott County, Kentucky. I graduated from Southland Bible Institute in May 1996. While there I met my future wife, Stephanie Quackenbush, and we were married on August 2, 1996. God has blessed us with two children, Michael and Susanna.
I was called to be the Youth Director at Bloomingdale Salem Baptist Church in the summer of 1994 and served there until November of 1997. After serving as a layman in my father’s church, Calvary Baptist Church in Huntingburg, Indiana, God called us to West End Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. I served as Associate Pastor at West End Baptist Church from September 1999 to August 2002. I was ordained there on July 22, 2001. God began to work in my heart in the spring of 2002 about planting a church somewhere in the United States. Through His providence He led us to Georgetown, Kentucky in August of 2002. New Hope Baptist Church’s first meeting took place at the Comfort Suites Hotel on the first Sunday in October 2002.
